This lesson is designed for photographers who are new to darkroom printing or returning to analogue practice after time away. Working one-to-one allows the session to move at a considered pace, with space for questions, experimentation, and individual guidance.
The focus is on understanding the printing process, from enlarger setup to final wash, so you leave with both practical skills and conceptual clarity.
Setting up and using the enlarger
Making contact sheets
Exposure control and contrast
Test strips and work prints
Printing and processing 8×10 black-and-white prints
Washing, drying, and basic print care
Participants leave with finished prints and the skills to continue experimenting independently.
All required darkroom chemistry
Some black-and-white photographic paper to get your started
Use of enlargers, trays, and equipment
Guided, hands-on instruction
One or more black-and-white negatives you’d like to print
Black and white silver gelatine paper for multiple prints
Comfortable clothing suitable for darkroom work
